Party Time, and Getting Down with the Sickness.

Posted in Unspecified

Last night was my epic Superhero/villain birthday bash, and I have to say it was one of the best nights ever. So many people came in costume, and thankfully there were more than a few people who recognised who I was supposed to be. I did panic for a bit, because although my outfit was in the right colours and patterns, Harley Quinn is such an obscure character I did wonder if I would get recognised at all.

We had a buffet, party games, drinks galore... and yet I had to go home early because for the past three weeks I've been nursing a cough that has finally turned into a full-blown cold and sore throat, and I felt like absolute shit last night. I even sat down and had a little cry around 1am because I just felt so rubbish and couldn't enjoy myself properly. Add on the fact that for some bizarre reason no amount of alcohol could take away the nagging sense of sobriety, and you have a rather dejected little Twisty-Harley, sitting on a stool with her hair in ribbons and crying into a bottle of Spitfire. Nevermind.

Oh, and my camera broke before we went out, so I've had to rely on about four different people to take decent photos and send them to me. So when I get those, I will post them up for all to see.

The best thing about being sober last night though, was being able to remember all the characters that made it out:

Batman and Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward version)
Joker (comic version)
Joker (Dark Knight version) (x2)
Poison Ivy (x2)
Two-Face
Batgirl
Catwoman
Lady Riddler
Harley Quinn (obviously!)
V (from V for Vendetta)
Lady Zorro
Mr Incredible
Mr Furious
The Punisher (x2)
Captain Caveman
Cheetara
Scooby Doo

and several homemade characters, including The Vixen and Emo Angel.

Photos soon... promise. For now, I'm going back to bed because I feel like absolute shit.

Wow - freshers' flu has spread that far?!

*patpat*

Can Scooby-Doo really be classed as a superhero? I've always classed him as an annoying mutt...

sounds like fun, except for the sickness *pat, pat*

Sorry you got sick, Twisty, but I know that you were rocking it in your Harley outfit.

Scooby was actually supposed to be coming as Mario, but his girlfriend's Princess Peach costume didn't come in time so he reverted back to the same costume he wore for last Hallowe'en.

Oh, and Bananaman was there, along with Blunt Man and Chronic!

blunt man and chronic!

captian caveman, thats awesome.

birdsnest - 5:19 PM - October 4, 2008

I think I would have been Rorschach.

dantesinferno - 9:20 PM - October 5, 2008

Rorschach has become one of my favourite ever comic-book characters, next to Marv.

Harley is by no means an obscure character. If you dont know who she is then you've lost all your geek cred. Not to mention she's a hot, crazy minx!!

splinteredmind - 4:32 PM - October 6, 2008

Hey, I'm still holding on to my geek cred thank you very much! I just hope I managed to pull of the "hot, crazy minx" part... ok, the crazy part at least.

I found out pretty recently that Harlequin was created for the 90's cartoon. The character was liked and the creator had a chance to make a comic involving her and she became part of official canon, popping up in other comics.

OgreJehosephatt - 7:26 PM - October 6, 2008

You didn't already know that? I thought it was common knowledge that Harley started out in the TV series...

Twist - 7:34 PM - October 6, 2008

"Common knowledge"? I wouldn't think that the knowledge of the existence of Harley is common. I know some avid comic collectors that were surprised by that little gem, though they don't collect the DC comics so much.

So, yeah, I guess I am some kinda out-of-touch simpleton since I didn't find that out that Harley was created by the cartoon until you first started to talk about your costume and it made me realize that there were things I didn't know about the character and I started to look stuff up.

OgreJehosephatt - 10:06 PM - October 6, 2008

i knew that!
but i is a nerd.
same thing with Lucius fox.

birdsnest - 10:51 PM - October 6, 2008

Ogre, calm down. Seriously.
When I said 'common knowledge', I meant common among Batman/DC fans, because all of those that I've spoken to in researching my costume, knew she was added to the comics after her success in the animated series.
No-one's calling you an out-of-touch simpleton, or claiming you're stupid, so please don't start.
